With populations of Felidae decreasing and the threat of extinction looming over much of the animal kingdom, I believe that it is time for us all to take action. For myself, this action is creating Roar Evermore, a website where I will be posting my own research on ecology and wildlife conservation biology with a focus on big cats to share information and encourage you to do your part to make the world a better place. Please keep in mind that I am currently a high school student and my research is by no means professional or perfect.
The research that I do will be mostly based off of secondary sources such as research articles, informational books and websites, etc. However, I do hope to expand to include field research in the future. Furthermore, the research that I do is not peer reviewed or perfect, so please reach out with any corrections or comments and I will review them.
Why Big Cats?
Ever since I was in 2nd Grade, I was very interested in big cats, their habitats, and their conservation. It started with a research project I did then and chose to focus on tigers, bobcats, and cheetahs. After many hours reading all the books that I could read as a 2nd Grader, I became fascinated with the world of big cats and their conservation, doing additional research on big cats and general wildlife biology and conservation in my free time and for school projects.
I believe that the conservation of big cats is very important to keeping the ecosystems of our Earth intact and thriving. Many species of big cats are keystone and umbrella species, meaning that they ensure that other species that live in their habitat are protected when they are protected due to the vast extent of habitat they occupy as well as their key position in the ecosystem as apex predators.
Additionally, I believe that with the year 2030, the year scientists predict irreversible climate change, approaching fast, it is more important than ever that awareness is brought to issues such as animal extinction, climate change, and climate equity. I believe that we all have our part to play, and when we form a network of people working together to support a cause they are passionate about, together, we can make a difference. For this reason, I am starting Roar Evermore: to share my love for ecology and conservation biology, especially regarding big cats, and to help to spread awareness about the perils of extinction and the effects it has on ecosystems and people.
Overall I am starting Roar Evermore because the actions of one have the potential to make a difference, provide hope, or inspire others.
So welcome, and what will you do to make the Earth a better place?
